5.A brief introduction of rebar coupler:
For many years, use of mechanical couplers to splice reinforcing bar has been regarded as a means of reducing the use of long bars. More recently, engineers and installers have recognised the benefits of using couplers to increase construction speed, improve productivity and simplify design details. There are numerous mechanical splicing systems available for use on rebar, many with elements of strength and/or operational compromise.
The use of mechanical splices has increased, particularly in the structural design process. This indicates that couplers now offer a cost-effective alternative to lapping. As well as producing a joint independent of the concrete, couplers can reduce material and installation costs, increase the speed of construction, and permit splicing where there is no space to lap.
